Greetings Blondie,
A few observations and comments:
Being available for the song: my family and I arrived just as the song before the puplic talk was commencing on a Sunday morn (not our usual time - visiting). We warbled. Lots and lots of coffee pre-meeting. Stupid but forgivable. You be the judge. During the next song we all filed into our respective rest rooms and came back to our seats, smiles clearly affixed to our faces. Song over, the WT conductor proceeds to glare at my family and me and read us the riot act per these current words in the WT study. Control your bladder!
Answering in your own words: some parents, years ago, sure dropped the ball on this one; their grown children are still reading the answers from the paragraph. From the heart!
Social Club: I loved the thought of meetings and learning and sharing but was always so depressed and let down afterwards. The only joy I truly derived from the meetings was when visiting with friends and family after the meeting.
God is really among you: when newcomers announce that this is the truth, upon a single visit - 'I didn't understand a single word, but I could feel the love!' - it provides fodder for tear-jerking assembly experiences. You know, on-the-spot repentance, turning around, conversion, dedication, etc.
Meetings will become a "permanent feature" in the new system: call me irreverent, but could you just kill me now?
Many thanx, Blondie, for a great review!

i just discovered a clipping from an old new york times article on the release of the first nwt volume.
it was tucked inside a nwt volume i purchased on ebay.
i thought it interesting and made a pdf of it.
Dear Cabasilas,
I haven't yet accessed the link provided, but upon sighting your thread, a responsive chord sounded - vis-a-vis various theories surrounding the true origins/background of the NWT. I really do wonder about the title choice: NEW WORLD. May it or may it not have been influenced by motivation other than pure Biblical scholarship? Given the Society's predilection for the stuff of Greber, other "borrowings" from questionable sources, and putative alliances with entities forbidden to the ordinary JW, I simply feel uncomftable with the NEW WORLD appelation. Any thoughts?
Thank you,

interesting topic from beliefnet.
12/14/2006 11:54 pm .
taking the position that jesus christ is, in fact, the son of god who paid the price for our sins, i dont believe our affiliation with any christian religion "gives a person an 'an edge'" in their approval by god and christ.
Greetings Blondie!
Some favorite thoughts:
"In those days there was no king in Israel [Governing Body in Brooklyn]; every man did what was right in his own eyes [was free to serve God as his conscience dictated]. Judges 17:6, New American Standard Bible, Reference Edition, A.D. 1963
God is not impressed with real estate and printing presses.
'Some brothers are so caught up with the Truth that they push others to do what they do not wish to do.' Near-verbatim comment from 30-some-year-old WT.
"Peter began: 'I now see how true it is that God has NO FAVOURITES, but that in every nation the man who is godfearing and does what is right is acceptable to him.'" Acts 10:34, The New English Bible, Standard Edition, 1970
"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible WITHOUT SURRENDER be on good terms with all persons. Speak YOUR TRUTH quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the DULL and the IGNORANT; they too have their story [fairy tale]." DESIDERATA, by Max Ehrmann, 1953 (?)

okay, even though i will reveal enough information to any lurkers who could.
still, i will blur a little info.
so that i can deny this is me.
Hello again, OTWO through a brick wall,
Are dead publishers still required to turn in a monthly time slip? Will they be questioned over the 15 minute minimum should they prove unable, due to health concerns, to pioneer?
I was in a foreign langcongo and it was so critical for all of us to do our jobs or the entire operation would go bust. Well, so we idealistic kids thought. Your conscientious nature probably has you still wanting to help those in need. And those at the hall who don't know where you stand, simply know and trust you as a friend, and couldn't care less about WT policy #36te547ue. Do you know any take-charge types? Mavericks? The WT system has no procedural policy or means to deal with those who could just possibly be combining their God-given abilities with trust in God and the holy spirit to pitch in and get a job done. There was a bad situation once where I offered to act as mediator between two gangs - the company men v. the elder-haters. The latter were friends and trusted me implicity. Since it's not policy to have one such as I act in any helpful capacity, the situation remains hateful. Too bad we cannot just be loving and caring individuals and DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE!
I guess I'm off topic a bit; however, being miffed at elders is most common. Since they do not call me, hence offering no help of any sort [it's OK!], I'm not subjected to the stuff you have described. Too bad you cannot just go out with the pioneers, JWD-type info (in WT format) in hand to offer those of foreign-expression. It could work!

Dear Minimus and Friends,
"I gotta be me", "I did it my way", "to thine own self be true", "do your own thing". To contemplate and act upon such godless thoughts would surely send a JW guy/gal onto the road to ruin. Another lie. I'm all for loving my neighbor in word and deed. Very important. But honestly, I never realized till coming here that being a free spirit was all right. I'm a flamboyant Mediterranean who loves food and music and art and dance and beauty and teaching and all my kids - spiritual and fleshly - and God and Christ were always in my life, as my sister and I walked alone to Sunday School every week. And while I really should simplify the previous run-on sentence, I don't have to, because you don't care! If you do, I will shuffle the words about to show that I am compliant.
I love being here with my new friends. Intellectual stimulation, creative thought, love and concern flowing from hurried messages typed out to despairing souls, rolling-in-the-aisle guffaws, cyber-slaps on the back....
JE VOUS AIME TOUS!

only about 15 minutes ago, i learned that my father died up the hospital this morning.
Dear Badboy,
Please be assured of our love and concern. What dreadful news. Both my parents died in hospital and it was not expected. Had a lovely visit with Dad the night before, and the next morning two sad-eyed doctors were awaiting my arrival....Hang in there, Bud.
Love and prayers,

if your church fails to act, will you?.
"if, after making an honest investigation, you are less than pleased with what you see, do more than just complain.
a journalist, while commenting on karl barth's statement that a church is its members, logically concluded: 'church members...are responsible for what the church says and does.
Howdy OTWO,
Thanx for the correction. At 3:27 a.m. I had calculated that September was the 8th month of the year...I was only off by 1! Really, thanx for that and the illuminating further comments. Looks as though you've had a breakthrough of sorts - good for you!
Hello Other Friends,
Thank you too for your fine thoughts; I'm going back now to re-read them!
Gratefully,

'Church members...are responsible....' [ellipsis marks are critical to the proper misinterpretation of Watchtower publications; author regrets errors of omission and commission. (see errata data)]

So ask yourself: Am I willing to share responsibility for EVERYTHING my church says and does? Can I really be proud of having all its members as spiritual brothers?" [CC emphasis]
Were you LESS THAN PLEASED with "the Truth"?
Were you told what would happen to you if you continued to COMPLAIN?
When did you wake up to the fact that you could no longer go along with EVERYTHING the WT says and does?
By the way, who is the journalist? An AWAKE! correspondant on assignment? Their own words will condemn them!
Got it in the neck for complainin',
